hello

this post is dedicated to my newest (and only!) number 1 fan. i know i told you not to hold your breath waiting for an update, but in my infinite kindness i have decided to be nice even nicer than usual and write one just for you.

hmm. what to write, what to write.

well, convocation was today. we were issued with smu ties - the best part about them was that they weren't the scarves the girls had to wear. they had printed out instructions - "how to tie a tie" and on the reverse, "how to tie a scarf". i still had to conduct a tie-tying clinic for some guys though. quite surprising that a fair number of guys still don't know how to tie them. mmm.

it was all quite amusing, really, because the dress code required that we all dress like waiters. we must've made everyone at suntec think there was some massive banquet going on which required zillions of waiters. maybe one of those chinese wedding dinner things, where the waitstaff all parade in carrying the same dish and then peel off, one per table. never fails to amuse me, that.

oh yes then the profs. i read a description of convocation somewhere, and it mentioned something along the lines of "the professors and deans wearing their full academic regalia" or some such fluff. so i was joking that they'd be in clown suits, with bells on their hats and pointy-toed shoes out of arabian nights. and as it turned out, my prediction wasn't terribly far from the truth! i felt so sorry for them.

plus the chief prof (i still have no idea about their titles) was carrying this thing which looked like a giant golden dart (perhaps to prod underperforming students?). and they had a flag of sorts for each school leading the procession - it was all pomp and pageantry with a constant overtone of ridiculity (grammar?) precisely because it was so pompous.

hmm wait did that last sentence make any sense? my brain is surely rusty as hell. gosh the reality that i'm starting uni is really starting to hit home hard. O levels and A levels are ultimately unimportant compared to your performance in uni, i should think. this is *it*. and i'm still the same happy-go-lucky, whatever-comes-i'll-take-it lance who's been awfully lucky never to have screwed up any major exams despite not having done a single day of consistent work in his life.

aiyarh. don't want to dwell on that. see - there i go again - happy go lucky me. mr whatever.
bah.

in other news, i am growing my hair out. god i hate the feeling of having long hair around my ears though. i'm constantly brushing it back. i hope i don't cave in and have it cut before its long enough to actually do anything different with, like the last 2 abortive attempts i made to change to a longer style, only to be told by the stylist that my hair is still far too short to do anything with other than, well, cut it shorter. as such, i am going to have a cap surgically attached to my head for the next few weeks, i think.
